A Utah judge has rejected a request from the man charged with killing Charlie Kirk to ban cameras from his high-profile murder case. Tyler Robinson’s attorneys argued he can’t get a fair trial if news outlets stream the proceedings. Media organizations, prosecutors and Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, wanted the court to allow cameras. They said transparency is the best way to guard against conspiracy theories that have circulated since Kirk was assassinated Sept. 10 while addressing thousands of students at Utah Valley University in Orem. State District Judge Tony Graf already has tightened his rules for cameras once during court hearings for Robinson.
