A radio show in Congo is trying to battle misinformation around an ongoing Ebola outbreak. Radio Télévision Mont Bleu station in Bunia has launched a program that has become a vital tool to win over residents who are unaware or skeptical about the rare Bundibugyo type of Ebola that has hit Congo. As of Thursday, at least 63 people had died from 381 confirmed cases. Resistance to protocols during public health emergencies is common in Congo, which is battling its 17th Ebola outbreak since the virus was first identified there in 1976. Officials say widespread rumors arising from fear and misinformation discourage residents from heeding health warnings or seeking treatment.
