We live in an earthquake prone area with the Sierra close by, but the earthquake usually has to be a magnitude 3 or higher to be felt. It's different for everyone though. Seismologists say we need to be prepared for a strong earthquake, because it's not a matter of if but when. 

Did you feel it? A magnitude 2.2 earthquake hit north-northwest of Mt. Rose just before 12:15 p.m., according to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory.

Southern California residents should remain on heightened alert until Tuesday for the increased possibility of a major earthquake, officials said.
