Authorities have ordered thousands of people to evacuate as a wind-driven wildfire threatens suburban homes in Southern California. The Sandy Fire was reported around 10 a.m. Monday in hills above Simi Valley, northwest of Los Angeles. The Ventura County Fire Department said that by mid-afternoon it had consumed more than 500 acres of dry brush and damaged at least one home, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum is perched on a hillside a few miles away and said it closed for the day because of the fire. The cause is under investigation.
