Diseases caused by ticks, mosquitoes and fleas have tripled in recent years, according to the CDC. In 2016, there were more than 25,000 confirmed cases of Lyme disease, which is spread by ticks. Northern Nevadans should certainly be aware of ticks, but shouldn't panic.

Talking about ticks can make your skin crawl - for good reason. A tick bite could lead to a scary disease that can be hard to diagnosis. Lyme disease is not often on the radar here in Nevada. Lyme disease is an infection that is transmitted through the bite of a tick infected with a bacterium. Ticks typically get the bacterium by biting infected animals, like deer and mice. Most people who get tick bites do not get Lyme disease but for those who do, it can be a long and painful journey.
