Today Virginia City locals celebrated the 160th year since the discovery of the Comstock Lode. County officials unveiled a Miners Statue at Miners Park today, to commemorate the important role the mining industry played in Virginia City and Nevada as a whole. 

Authorities in rural northeastern Nevada say a mine bus collided head-on with a tractor-trailer rig Saturday, killing two people and injuring others.

Federal mine safety officials have cited Newmont Mining Corp. in the death of a Nevada miner who was run over by his truck after he left the engine running and failed to set the parking brake on the unattended vehicle.
