A man convicted in the 2024 shooting death of a New York City police officer has been sentenced to 115 years to life in prison. Guy Rivera was found guilty of aggravated manslaughter but acquitted of murder in the killing of Officer Jonathan Diller during a traffic stop. The case briefly became a focal point during President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign to reclaim the White House. Prosecutors said Rivera pulled out a concealed handgun and intentionally shot Diller. But Rivera’s lawyer argued the gun accidentally discharged as officers pulled the firearm from Rivera’s pocket. The Queens jury deliberated for roughly eight hours following a three-week trial.
