A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison in Oregon for the death of his then-girlfriend in a 1980s cold case that was recently reopened. The Oregon Attorney General's office said Tuesday that Marcus Sanfratello pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the death of Teresa Peroni. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison with a minimum of 10 years served. Peroni disappeared in 1983 after attending a party in a rural area. Authorities reopened the case in 2024 and collected new DNA evidence. Sanfratello was extradited from California to Oregon last year. His defense attorney said he had a strong motivation to resolve the case because of a recent health diagnosis.
