The U.S. network video pool for the White House appears to be back in operation. But on Friday morning, the situation remains fluid. That's according to the media analyst for CNN, one of three outlets that were banned from White House grounds for three days. A judge temporarily struck down the ban of CNN, MS NOW and Politico on Thursday, but his ruling didn’t directly address the pool. CNN media analyst Brian Stelter wrote on X that the major networks plan to resume video coverage of Trump events on Friday. He says CNN has a pool assignment at the National Archives with President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, and that the White House had approved the network’s credentials.
Pope Leo XIV told reporters they were welcome to cover him as he responded a question about the Trump administration’s attempt to bar U.S. media from the White House by affirming the importance of journalists covering public figures. Leo spoke to reporters on board the papal plane on Friday as he traveled to France at the start of a four-day visit. Asked by a CNN reporter about the Trump administration’s attempt to bar CNN and other reporters, Leo said the media was welcome on his plane. “I am very happy that here, you are all welcome,” he said.

Iran has offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume talks on its nuclear program in seven days if the United States lifts its naval blockade, waives sanctions on Iranian oil sales and observes a ceasefire that would include Lebanon. Iran’s foreign minister detailed the proposal in a private gathering on Thursday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, according to one attendee. The deal strongly resembles the so-called Memorandum of Understanding reached in June, but with an accelerated timetable. The earlier agreement, which had called for a 60-day interim period, collapsed within weeks as Iran resumed attacks on shipping in the strait.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he has asked U.S. President Donald Trump to urge China to influence Russia to ends its invasion of Ukraine. Zelenskyy met Trump in the United States this week. The Ukrainian leader says he expects feedback on Trump’s talks with China’s President Xi Jinping. NATO countries have called China a “decisive enabler” of Russia’s actions. Zelenskyy says he also discussed U.S.-brokered talks involving Ukraine and Russia, hefty U.S. sanctions on Russia, and the production of Patriot air defense systems. He highlighted the need for unimpeded Black Sea shipping routes and financial support for Ukraine’s strained budget.
