The Carson City School District has partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada to house a new preschool classroom.

NV Energy reports that nearly 1,200 customers are currently without power across parts of Washoe County, primarily in the 89506 zip code. 

Due to icy road conditions, here are the school closures and delays for Friday, January 6

Numerous area schools are closed, or delayed. And several area highways have controls. 

All Washoe County Schools are on a two-hour delay. This includes Valley and Incline Village schools. Winter bus stops are also in effect 

St. Albert the Great, Our Lady of Snows, and Little Flower School Catholic schools are all on a two-hour delay Wednesday due to the icy roadways.

Nevada has been chosen to receive millions of dollars in federal grant funding to develop and expand current preschool programs that serve 4-year-old children from low- and moderate-income families. In the first year of the grant allotment, the state will receive $6.4 million.

Federal education officials are giving Nevada millions of dollars to expand preschool programs in the state.Gov. Brian Sandoval and state Superintendent Dale Erquiaga announced Wednesday that Nevada is one of five states to receive a preschool development grant. 

A new report says Nevada has improved in the number of children enrolled in preschool programs but still ranks near the bottom of states when it comes to program spending.
