I disagree,” said the EU executive on Wednesday during her annual State of the European Union speech in Strasbourg. Von der Leyen said that under her proposal “mini accounts” chaperoned by guardians would be granted to kids aged 13-15.The EU’s 27 member nations will now vote on the proposal, which could spark tensions with U.S. President Donald Trump, who has long criticized Europe’s tech regulations.

A fishing crew in Alaska’s Bering Sea rescued a teenager who clung to a capsized boat for roughly two days in the frigid waters. The rescuers say they also recovered the bodies of the boy’s brother and a cousin who died sometime after the boat flipped. The Coast Guard says it began searching for the skiff Monday morning. An aircrew spotted the 15-year-old hours later on top of the boat near Alaska’s remote St. Lawrence Island. A nearby fishing vessel then approached the overturned skiff. Video of the rescue shows the boy kneeling atop the skiff before the boat’s crew pulled him into a rescue basket.

Families’ interest in their kids’ education is falling in many high-income countries as school systems struggle with plunging test scores. That's according to newly released results from a standardized test taken by 15-year-olds around the world. Over 760,000 teenagers in dozens of countries took the Programme for International Student Assessment last year. Results were released Tuesday. Average scores in math, reading and science are all at their lowest point ever among highly developed economies. That includes continued declines in reading and math scores in the United States. China, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea scored the highest marks on the test.

Federal law enforcement warned the parents of Caleb Vazquez, one of two teenagers involved in a San Diego mosque shooting, about his concerning online comments days before the attack. The parents have filed a lawsuit against Park Mental Health Treatment of San Diego, where Vazquez was living. The FBI contacted Vazquez's mother on May 14, four days before the shooting, about his dark web activity discussing school shootings. The lawsuit claims the facility failed to intervene despite signs of imminent danger. Park Mental Health disputes the allegations, stating they are not responsible for Vazquez's actions.
