The Food Bank of Northern Nevada (FBNN) will be celebrating 40 years of service with the Imagine Ending Hunger Experience this Friday.
The fundraising event will be held at the R/Lab and Bundox Bocce at the Renaissance Reno.
A 4-course meal will be served with wine pairings and a cooking demonstration by Chef Mark Estee and Chef Sean Munshaw.
At the celebration event there will also be games and activities including Bocce Ball, Billiards and Shuffleboard and a silent auction that will also be open virtually.
Jocelyn Lantrip, the Director of Marketing for the FBNN assured that the event is much more than fun and games.
“There’s been a lot of reflection this year about our 40th anniversary because we’ve looked back at our timeline and now," she said. "We started as a tiny pantry and now we’re this giant distribution system helping 140,000 people every single month.”
Lantrip said now they're looking to what comes next, and told us that the FBNN has always been innovative.
They're entering a partnership with the Children's Cabinet, and working on The Oddie Project. Proceeds from the event will also be supporting these two organizations.
The FBNN said their 40th is a time to reflect on not only what they've accomplished, but what they plan to check off their list in the future.
“Hunger and food insecurity is definitely going in the wrong direction and we’ve had a lot of great support over the years, so it’s really been a perfect time for us to look at what we’ve done," Lantrip said. "Look at how we’ve improved things over the years and know that we can do even better.”
Lantrip also emphasized that the FBNN is the community's food bank, and this event is a community event they want everyone to be a part of.
“We are going to have a great time," she said. "It is not a sit down, listen to a presentation fundraiser... this is an interactive experience, and we want people to be up and moving and having fun and we’re really excited for it.”
Lantrip advised that people secure their tickets to the event sooner than later.
A flash sale for their tickets is happening at 6 p.m. on Tuesday for 40 hours.
People purchasing tickets during this time can get a second one for 40% off, or they can buy three tickets and get a fourth one for free.
