The streets of Victorian Plaza in Downtown Sparks were flooded earlier with barbecue enthusiasts for day four of the Best in the West Rib Cook-Off where the country's best barbecue teams compete for the title of best ribs.
Victorian Plaza was packed with people visiting from all over the nation.
Many attendees that I spoke with traveled to sparks this Labor Day weekend just to try these ribs for themselves.
"I understand that there's about 43 or 44 positions that they can cook in, and people wait up to decades to get into this. And there are a few favorites; we come back to see what it's like," says Stewart Young who comes from Copperopilis every year for the Rib Cook-Off.
"I love it. Every year I come out it's a great influence. It's something that everybody needs to come out and do. It supports the community. It's... great!" says Carson City native, Zach Smith.
Organizers estimate that nearly 400,000 people will eat over 250,000 pounds of these ribs over the course of the festival.
For the entertainment tonight, Foghat performed from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on the main stage.
Attendees that I spoke with say that events like this are about spending time with friends and family.
"Oh, it's priceless you know? You can't put a price tag on it you know. We can always make money, but we can't get memories," says Luis Esquivel from the Bay Area.
"It's a family thing you know. We drive all the way from Stockton, we have a good time, and we get to try the best ribs in probably all of town. And it's a good time to spend the holiday weekend with the family you know?" says Martin Cano who traveled from Stockton.
