Fatal crash

A 67-year-old ATV driver is dead after a crash on SR 225 in Elko County last Friday night.

The crash happened around 7:15 p.m. near Elko County mile marker 83, one mile south of Mountain City.

Nevada Highway Patrol says a preliminary investigation shows that a Toyota Camry was heading north on SR 225 in the wrong direction and when it got close to the Polaris Sportsman ATV, the driver of the ATV tried to brake, going off the roadway and overturning.

NHP says the Polaris driver, Russell Edward Lynde was thrown from the ATV and later transported to a nearby hospital where he died shortly after the crash.

Troopers say the Toyota driver took off and was contacted by law enforcement the next day and is cooperating with the investigation.

The crash is considered an open investigation and is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol, Major Incident Reconstruction Team (MIRT).
