Washoe County deputies spent a busy weekend responding to emergencies and enforcing traffic safety, including rescuing a snowboarder who became stranded in backcountry terrain.
According to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office in an online post, deputies and volunteers carried out a second rescue of the week when a snowboarder unintentionally went out of bounds on the backside of Diamond Peak Ski Resort.
Search and Rescue members, supported by the Incident Management Team and resort staff, used snow machines to reach the snowboarder, who had taken shelter in an abandoned cabin.
The team guided the person back to safety despite cold, challenging conditions and potential avalanche hazards.
The post also noted that deputies handled dozens of calls for service over the weekend, encountering multiple people driving vehicles while under the influence.
These drivers were arrested, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to maintain safety on Washoe County roads.
Deputies and volunteers continue to work around the clock, combining search and rescue operations with routine patrols to protect residents and visitors throughout the region.
