Drivers in north Reno can expect to see overnight lane closures on U.S. 395 this week.

Lane reductions are set to happen in both directions from the spaghetti bowl to North McCarran Boulevard, beginning Tuesday at 8 p.m. through 6 a.m. on Monday.

This is part of NDOT’s project to resurface 11 bridges across the Truckee Meadows.

Meg Ragonese, the Public Information Officer for the Nevada Department of Transportation, said, "What we're doing is we're resurfacing the aging surface of these bridges and making other improvements. For example, improving and replacing the bridge joints that connect the road surface to the bridge surface, and these types of improvements are really important to preserve our public infrastructure."

They tell us these improvements can be vital when it comes to helping extend a bridge’s lifetime.

"A lot of times these surfaces, if they are left to deteriorate or if they have extensive potholes, and what that can mean is water can actually infiltrate into the bridge structure itself, which can further, you know, lead to corrosion or other aging of the bridges. And we don't want that to happen,” said Ragonese.

NDOT tells us they've been able to stay on track with this project’s timeline, but they say entering the final phases will also be dependent on weather conditions.

Ragonese told us, "Right now we are replacing the concrete barrier between the two sections of travel so that work will finish early next Monday, but we want drivers to know that these important bridge improvements will continue, will actually continue finishing work through the end of this year."

They tell us this bridge resurfacing project is a separate project from the work they're doing to widen and improve 395 in the North Valleys, and with the extra amount of workers on the roads, they remind folks to be cautious when driving through there.

"We have construction crews working on these very important projects, night and day. And so we want to remind every motorist to give yourself extra time if you're going to be traveling through those roadwork zones. That will mean that you're able to travel slowly and more safely through those work zones," said Ragonese.

They tell us they'll have electronic signs set up in the area before the start of that work to let drivers know of the changes.
