Drivers are seeing delays along I-80 and USA Parkway on Friday night due to a train derailment involving around two dozen rail cars.
It happened around 6:30 a.m.
Crews have been on scene since the early afternoon, trying to get things cleared up.
The train freight belongs to Union Pacific, and a timeline isn't yet available for when the cleanup will be done. However, first responders in the area say it will probably take several days.
Adam Mayberry with Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue said, "Our crews have left the scene. Our presence is no longer required. We were there for a while to essentially assess, to monitor, to provide any safety support during the initial incident. But at this time, the scene is stable. The Union Pacific Railroad has, in fact, taken over the incident."
We do know that no one was hurt and nothing hazardous spilled out of the freight into the surroundings.
The cause of the derailment is still under investigation, and we will keep you updated as we learn more.
