It can take up to two years to teach a child how to swim. Staying water safe is crucial, especially for the little guys as we see the heat turn up throughout the summer.

The Infant Swimming Resource is a reliable and effective service in town that raises confidence and saves lives for kids as young as six months to six years old in just six weeks.

“At Infant Swimming Resource we teach children how to self-rescue in the water. Our goal is to get them skilled in self-rescue very quickly,” says Lynette Bellin, Certified ISR Instructor.

The process is based in behavioral science and child psychology. Working through short, ten-minute lessons, four to five days a week for six to seven weeks. It’s a very gentle approach that is able to get infants and young kids to learn how to roll-back, float and even find an exit.

The last week of lessons is focused on real scenarios based around the home to prove that they have the skills to survive.

“What is great is in the last week we have checkout skills where we will put them in full clothing, we'll simulate situations that could be very real life. So, a fall-in with clothes on, and they find their float. A lot of times when water accidents happen it's during non-swim times," says Freeman.

And after the six-week program, parents are taught and encouraged to practice and teach their kids. The results leave kids and infants with the skills to save themselves and with a stronger base of skills to be stronger swimmers while leaving parents with peace of mind.

“It's like a relief off me as a parent, because seeing her be able to already go to a float immediately has helped a lot. He is so confident in the water. Before he was scared and always us wanted near him but now, he just wants to do it on his own which is amazing," says parent Rachel Christensen.

Freeman adds, “As a busy mom of two kids I don't want to have to invest two years for my kids to learn how to swim and I feel like that's what my favorite part is about the program as well, is that it's effective, you get it don't in six to seven weeks and your child is safe.”

Infant Swim Resource teaches lessons all year-round, so if you take lessons in the winter, your child can be ready to hit the water in time for the next summer season.
