Two hikers were rescued from the steep rock slabs of Flagpole Peak this past Saturday after they became stranded and were unable to climb up or down safely.
The El Dorado County Search and Rescue Technical Rope Team on Saturday, September 13, responded along with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, ECHO-1, which conducted a hoist operation to bring both hikers to safety.
According to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office in an online Facebook post, the two people were identified as Lake Tahoe basin locals.
“This rescue is a good reminder for those venturing into challenging terrain to have a plan and the ability to go back the way you came,” the post stated.
The Sheriff’s Office also thanked EDSAR for its role in completing what it described as a safe rescue in extremely challenging terrain.
