Hot August Nights is here, and we're not just talking about the temperatures.
Classic cars are being showcased throughout the area all week long.
On Monday, we had the chance to head over to the Peppermill Casino and talk to people who bring their cars down every year. They said it is the highlight of their summer.
Brad Winter, who has been participating in Hot August Nights for years now, told us, "When people tell you that you have a nice car and all that kind of stuff, it just gives you a good feeling. All the hard work that you put in and everything, it's great, yeah, that's the best part."
Many people said that their love for cars isn't the only thing that keeps bringing them back.
They told us the connections they make with others who have the same hobby are something they look forward to each time.
Steve Guilford, another Hot August Nights participant we spoke with, said, "Talking with all the people, hearing the first cars they had in high school, to the cars they had and wished they still had, but you get such a variety of cars out here, it's not just one."
Another thing that keeps people excited is finding out who the live music entertainment will be each year.
Guilford said, "It’s not only the cars, but it's the music. Like tonight, Mitch Polzak and the Royal Deuces. Love that band. Great entertainment."
And after talking to workers at the event, it's clear this is one of Reno's favorite events.
They told us the feedback they get each year tops the previous one, and being able to create a fun and safe event for everyone to enjoy once a year is something they're proud of.
Collin Alldredge, Director of Special Events for the Peppermill Casino, said, "I think some of these people love cars so much they wish we could do it all year long, but it wouldn't be special. So this one week, you just got to pack it. All the cars you can get."
Those who grew up coming to this event with their parents said how meaningful it is for them now to bring their own kids and continue creating the same core memories.
Albert Campos, a Hot August Nights participant, told us, "Honestly, like, family is the first thing I look forward to, you know, like just spending all this time with the family and making memories."
R.T.C. will be offering free rides throughout this week to help people who are attending the event not have to deal with the hassle of traffic and parking.
