Earlier this month the Washoe County Sheriff's Office released the annual State of The Sheriff's Office Report for 2023.
The report highlights community engagement, patrol highlights, crime statistics and more.
Overall, crime is down one percent but there are multiple areas that Sheriff Darin Balaam wants to improve on this year to keep people safe.
"What I'd like to see improving this year are some of our violent crimes. Unfortunately, those are up, and so together not only within the agency, but with the community's help, that's where we are going to focus a lot of our efforts this year. We still have big needs in mental health, but we are making strides there," said Sheriff Balaam.
According to the report, aggravated assault, homicide offenses, and robbery all went up when compared to 2022.
Vehicle burglary, grand theft auto, and all other larceny has gone down when compared to 2022.
