Sepulveda Elementary School is fundraising to continue paying its full-time physical education substitute teacher and to cover school supplies.

The school is one of only four other elementary schools in Washoe County with a full-time P.E. teacher. The other three schools with full-time, donation-funded substitute P.E. teachers are Incline, Alice Taylor, and Van Gorder Elementary.

The Washoe County School District said, "All elementary schools that currently have full-time P.E. teachers are employing substitutes paid for through funds raised outside the district." The district added, "There are no district-funded (allocated) full-time P.E. teacher positions at any elementary school in the district. However, individual parent-teacher organizations (PTOs) have the option to raise or allocate funds to support such positions independently."

According to the district, 37 elementary schools in the county have no P.E. teacher, and 26 have part-time P.E. teachers.

Each year, Sepulveda conducts a fundraiser to pay for its substitute teacher’s salary. The fundraiser website states, "We need your help! At the end of our fundraiser, every student will run, dance, skip, move, and groove as we celebrate helping our school."

The goal of this year’s fundraiser is $30,000. So far, the school has raised about $13,000.
