Evidence of bird flu (H5N1) has officially been detected in dairy cattle in Nye County, Nevada, per the Nevada Department of Agriculture.
This year, more than 60 bird flu infections have been reported, more than half of them in California.
Scientists believe the mutations may allow the virus to better bind to receptors in the upper airways of humans.
