Drought monitor

While much of Northern Nevada is still in a drought, the central part of the state is seeing some improvement compared to a few months ago. The Truckee Meadows is still in moderate drought, but not as much of the state is in a severe drought compared to earlier in the year. Far northern Nevada is in an extreme drought, crossing into the Idaho and Oregon border.

October rain

Around a half inch of rain fell in Reno during the month of October, which is close to normal. Around a third of an inch of rain fell on Halloween alone. Eastern Nevada did well during the month as well. Mt. Rose is reporting a snow depth of 8” on October 31st. The remnants of Rachel helped us out too. Especially east of Reno. The highest gauge reported 8.30” in the Vacarro Springs area in Eureka County.

Extended outlook precipitation

The extended forecast between November 10th-14th is trending wetter and warmer than average. California has a better chance of seeing more precipitation than normal compared to eastern Nevada. Northern Nevada also has a better chance of seeing warmer than normal temperatures.

Extended outlook temperatures

Thanks to high pressure, temperatures will gradually warm through the weekend, with 70 degrees possible by the end of the weekend. The weather pattern will change towards the end of next week, but it’s too far away to nail down any specifics.
