According to NOAA, heat is usually the number one cause of death for weather disasters on average each year in the United States. Which means it’s not something to take lightly. The heat risk goes from minor in Reno on Tuesday to moderate on Wednesday, and stays there through the weekend. Pockets of Northern Nevada could reach major levels as well.
The Heat Risk scale from the National Weather Service, takes into consideration the high and low, averages, mugginess, and odds of having heat illness or stroke. This means the heat risk changes throughout the year as seasons come and go. How long the heat sticks around plays a role as well. Especially if it does not cool off at night.
South Lake Tahoe is forecasted to have a minor heat risk through Thursday, with a moderate heat risk on Friday. Carson City is similar to Reno, but switches to a moderate heat risk a little bit later. Highs in Carson City on Friday and Saturday will be in the upper 90’s to 100. Lovelock is forecasted to be slightly hotter than Reno on Saturday with a high of 103 degrees.
Keep in mind Friday is still several days away, the forecast will likely be tweaked between now and then as confidence grows.
