Fire danger remains critical in the Truckee Meadows through Saturday as a low moves through the region. In general, wind gusts will peak around 45 mph, but wind prone areas have a chance of reaching 60 mph. This includes places like Washoe Valley or Red Rock. Arrowcreek, Caughlin Ranch, and the North Valleys are usually at least a little bit windier than the Reno Airport. The stronger the wind speed the higher the fire risk.

Relative humidity plays a role as well. Higher relative humidity values will help to mitigate the fire risk in the Sierra, but it’s not zero, as winds will still be strong there. There is a better chance for rain north of I-80, and closer to the low itself. Therefore, lowering the fire risk.
