A low pressure system passing north of Reno will drive a cool front into the region by Tuesday along with an increase in wind and our outdoor wildland fire danger is very high.
Gusty winds 30 to 40 mph return Monday afternoon along with low humidity and very dry conditions that will give us a red flag warning from noon until 8pm.
Avoid outdoor activities that make a flame or spark, such as off roading, welding, target shooting and even yard work, to prevent new wildfire starts.
So far this year in Reno we are more than -2.5" below average for precipitation for the year and fuels like sagebrush and cheatgrass are drying out and can cause wildfires to grow quickly with the gusty winds.
Blowing dust near dry lake beds will reduce visibility on area roads, and boaters you can expect choppy conditions on area lakes with wind advisories up as well.
The wind will remain breezy on Tuesday as well with lighter winds by Wednesday through the weekend warming up into the low 90s on Saturday, the first day of summer.
