Officials tell us that fire crews are mopping up the Brenda Fire in Washoe Valley that started on Friday afternoon.
The Brenda Fire started just after 3:15 p.m. Friday on Brenda Way, on the east side of Washoe Valley.
The fire has been downgraded from 1,200 acres to 632 acres. Crews are mopping up Saturday but do not have an updated containment percent yet. It was reported 10 percent contained Friday night. Firefighters say the blaze spread quickly thanks to some harsh conditions.
"It's on the hillside, the wind is pushing out here," Mark Regan with the North Lake Tahoe Protection District explained Friday night. "The dry conditions, the heave cheatgrass...everything is working against us right now."
Air support dropped water from Washoe Lake and tankers dropped flame retardant, having a huge impact on the fire.
700 homes were threatened by the fire but those concerns were alleviated around 8:00 p.m. Friday. Residents were displaced by the fire but allowed to return to their homes Friday night. No structures have been damaged.
There is no immediate word on how the fire started.
Road Impacts:
Authorities say Eastlake Boulevard has reopened, along with U.S. 395.
Authorities are asking people to be careful on the roads and if they come across livestock as the planes have frightened wild horses in the area.
