Carson City is asking for public input on its Fuji Park Master Plan update. The city says it wants to re-imagine the 14 acres of land, to better meet the needs of the community.
The park's amenities include a playground area, benches, picnic tables, a covered picnic shelter with electrical outlets, and heated year-round restrooms. There are also large trees and a natural creek running through it in southern Carson City.
Surrounding the area includes a rodeo arena, grandstands, a 60-stall barn, a small open-air animal barn, animal wash racks, an announcers booth and restrooms. An indoor Exhibit Hall has complete kitchen facilities and restrooms. The arena is reserved for special events and activities.
A public survey is available, and it first asks if you've been to the park in the past five years, how often you go, and what facilities you use during your visit. The survey also asks what time of year you use the park, if weather impacts your decision to go, and also what new amenities, programs or events, and other ways the city can improve the area.
But South Lake Tahoe resident, David Field, had a hard time thinking of ways to make it better.
"They take really good care of it, the people here are amazing, look at the grounds here. It's a great spot to stop and stretch your legs." said Field.
Field has been going to the park for about 30 years, and he usually brings a best friend. Like a dog he rescued named Buddy.
"The woman at the shelter said Buddy's next for euthanization and I said, 'No he's not.' And I've had him for six years now and this is one of his favorite places," said Field. "He runs around, chases the squirrels and chases other dogs."
The only thing Field would want to change about Fuji Park is the fenced area for dogs. He says he wishes it was bigger.
Field said "It's just a great park I'd like to see them keep it going."
