Carson City Fire Department Warns Of Scam Calls

The Carson City Fire Department says they were contacted by a resident who stated she had received phone calls from a person soliciting donations for the fire department and fire victims.

The Carson City Fire Department says they do not make phone solicitations requesting donations and were not aware of any fire department in the area doing so.

They said the Carson City Sheriff's Department consistently receives reports of people falling for financial scams.  They want people to be aware of "spoofing," which allows the suspect to mask their phone numbers and emails making it seem as if they are contacting you from within the area you live. They can falsify the number that appears on the victim's caller ID display or making it appear that a message came from any email address the sender chooses.

The Carson City Fire Department is encouraging people to stay vigilant and not to offer payment to this scam.
