A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the area, and chain controls are up for the mountain passes.Â
Caltrans says that chain controls are in effect for I-80 from the state line to Alta. Crashes had closed I-80 westbound at Donner Summit, and further west multiple crashes had closed eastbound lanes at Boreal. All lanes have since been reopened.
Chain controls are also up for Mt. Rose Highway, as well as Highway 89 and U.S. 50 in Lake Tahoe. A section of Highway 89 near Emerald Bay is closed due to snow.
