City of Sparks Approves Fountainhouse Development for Near Victorian Square

In the next year, new apartment buildings in the heart of Victorian Square in Sparks will be coming your way. The Fountain House at Victorian Square will consist of ten multi-family buildings just west of the movie theater and eventually two mixed-use buildings one each side of the entrance to the theater.

The City of Sparks says the project  will give new residents a prime location for dining, retail, and a quick commute to work. Plus, they say, it will help revitalize businesses hit hard by the recession.

"It brings a much more of a critical mash to downtown victorian square, which will feed off some of the vendors and the merchants that do business down in Victorian Square that have been struggling for some time," said Adam Mayberry, spokesperson for the City of Sparks.

Groundbreaking on this development is expected to start late this month or early June. And by the time the project is finished early next year, you can rent one of the 230 apartment style units available.

For the last several years, there hasn't been much development near Victorian Square. So 39 North Downtown, a group of business owners in the community is looking to help revitalize the area. They say this construction is crucial, because it will bring prosperity and growth to the area.

"There are areas and pockets  that just need help and need attention," said Kim Ciesynski with 39 North Downtown. "That's what we want to bring attention to, is that in a couple of years, this is going to be an amazing place to live, to work, to eat, to play."

With the proximity to the freeway, the city says this complex should attract future employees for some of the big businesses coming to the area.

"We think there's a really strong market for many of the workers, soon to be workers who will be relocating the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center for employment opportunities such as with Tesla," said Mayberry.

The developer says that the units will be rented as apartments once they are finished, but may be sold as condos in the future.
