Dash for Dads Raises Money for Cancer Treatment

Hundreds of people came out this Father's Day to take part in the 4th annual Dash for Dads run in Sparks.

The event was held at Scheels and was put on by Cancer Awareness of Nevada. The run raises funds for cancer patients who need help paying for treatment.

Organizer Joe Lopez says they have raised around $70,000 over the past three years for local patients. This year, they expect to raise over $20,000.

"This will just add to our total," Lopez says. "We'll have much more funds available to help out patients locally."

Dash for Dads includes a timed 5K run, as well as a two mile walk and a Kids Fun Run.

Around 200 registered for this year's event. Lopez says that is almost double the number of people who registered last year.

The event started at 8:00 a.m. to help give participants the chance to spend the rest of their Father's Day with loved ones.

"We want the families to be able to go out and spend the rest of the day with dads," Lopez says. "You know, complete their Father's Days."

This is the second year Dash for Dads has been hosted at Scheels.
