A dog microchipped in Fernley was found this week wearing a medical cone in Mendocino County.
The seven-year-old dog, named Thunder, the Cone Dog From the Woods, on Facebook was also bleeding and limping.
The Mendocino Coast Humane Society says Thunder was found in the Jackson State Forest without any tags.
They also learned that his microchip was last updated in 2015 in Fernley and had no updated contact information.
They say the cone had grown into his neck, so it was on him for a long time. They say also his wounds are consistent with being attacked by a wild animal, but it’s an unknown when.
On Thursday, Thunder underwent surgery to remove the old cone from his neck - he's now resting and recovering.
