On Wednesday we reported on the 30th anniversary of the deadly Galaxy Airlines crash in Reno. A rededication ceremony was held at Galaxy Memorial Grove at Rancho San Rafael Park to honor those affected by the crash.
But something was wrong – while the rededicated plaque reads Flight 205, in reality it was Flight 203.Â
Channel 2 has learned that Washoe County representatives are aware of the issue and are trying to correct the mistake.Â
Flight 203 crashed shortly after takeoff on January 21, 1985, killing 70 people. The commercial charter plane left then Reno-Cannon Airport shortly after 1 a.m. headed to Minneapolis.Â
One person, a teenager named George Lamson, Jr. survived the crash. He and his daughter, Hannah attended yesterday's rededication ceremony.Â
The National Transportation Safety Board determined that an air access door had been left open and caused the plane to vibrate. But they concluded that probable cause of the crash was pilot error.
