When it health care, Nevada ranks among the worst in the country, especially when it comes to things like affordability and access to care. That was the motivation behind a new integrative wellness center in Reno. Alpine Wellness opened up a year and a half ago. It's a clinic that takes a holistic approach to healing.

"We call it integrative medicine," said Anya Buckett, owner and nurse practitioner. "So we do take a functional medicine approach, looking at a root cause to ailments. So say it's gut issues, migraines, acne, we do take a very comprehensive approach, which is very different for a lot of people. But we're also able to provide basic western medicine services, so if you have an ear infection, strep throat, we can take care of that as well."

The business offers concierge services like 24/7 access to providers and personalized care.

"My husband and I, the other nurse practitioners, it's about the relationships we develop," Buckett said. "It's not that we come in the room for five minutes, what's the problem, here's a prescription. We sit for an hour with our patients and get to know them and talk about non-medical related things, like how their family is, what's going on their lives. It's a very different development of a relationship than people are used to with a medical provider."

The Reno clinic has been so successful, the husband and wife team opened up another one in Minden.

"It's been wonderful," Buckett said. "Minden is incredibly underserved, so it just made sense to expand down there."

It's a family-focused business that continues to grow.

"This is the way I live," Buckett said. "This isn't just the medicine I provide, but this is the way I live, in a very natural, holistic way, and so it just fits very well with our family, our values, and it's been wonderful."

Both the Reno and Minden clinics are currently accepting new patients.
