Our Someone 2 Know was born and raised in northern Nevada and is now a business owner here in Reno....her road to success wasn't always smooth one and she wants to share her story to motivate other young women who may face the same challenges.
Meet Emily Bates.
Clients come to Bella Grey Medical Spa for a variety of skin and wellness treatments. But what most who visit the med-spa don't know is that the owner, nurse practitioner Emily Bates defied the odds to become the successful professional she is today.
"I got pregnant when I was 17.”
...And never let the stigma of teen pregnancy define her.
"I never stopped going through college, I worked, went through college,” Bates shares.
She then earned an advanced degree as a nurse practitioner (MSN, APRN, FNP-BC). If her wall lined with diplomas and certificates isn't proof enough that she's unstoppable...
"Emily has always been driven,” life-long friend, Brian Kehoe tells us, “Emily has always been focused."
...Bates - now a single mother of two - recently opened the doors to her new business in Reno.

"I do PDO-threads, non-surgical face lifts,” explains Emily. “Non-surgical nose jobs, we do facials."
And Bates says the clientele is growing- almost entirely through word of mouth. Spa regular and friend Brian says he's not surprised
"I think sometimes people look at Emily’s blonde hair and don't realize quite how smart she is,” smiles Kehoe, “But she's the smartest girl in the room - at all times."
In the room where she treats clients, Emily always keeps two pictures as a reminder of her journey; in one - she's a pregnant teen ready to graduate high school, in the other a nurse practitioner ready to take on the world.
"There's a reason they call us mama bears,” says Emily “Because we really protect our children, and part of protecting my child was to show her - look what you can achieve"
