FedEx Gears Up For Busy Holiday Season

With online shopping it's easier to pick out what you want to give your loved ones for Christmas, but you also want to make sure you get your packages on time.

For shipping and delivering companies like FedEx these next few weeks they will be slammed with extra packages, they anticipate this will be the busiest holiday season in history. Which is why FedEx has spent the past few months gearing up for the thousands of extra orders they will receive from Black Friday to Christmas Eve. "It is a totally different monster, especially when we get into November and December," says Jacob Kane, a driver for FedEx.

They hired additional staff and added more vehicles not just locally but nationwide as well, they also want to make sure orders arrive on time. "Weather is a wildcard in the area. FedEx has 18 meteorologists on site and they are keeping track of weather," says Shannon Eskridge, Senior Manager for FedEx. Plus, making sure all orders arrive safely. "We just want to keep our fleet safe, so we make sure they have the proper equipment, chains on their vehicles," explains Eskridge.

Drivers also want to make sure everyone receives their packages, even after it gets to your doorstep. "All those new doorbells with the cameras, I recommend getting those. Currently with the Christmas season and those packages getting stolen, it is nice to know who is on your front porch," says Kane.

You can also manage how and when your package gets delivered for extra security. "Customers can go online and ask to divert their package to another location for pickup if they are worried about package security," says Eskridge.
