What would a Triple Crown win be worth for the owners of California Chrome? It's a complex calculation.
Â
Racing insiders say that if the horse becomes the first Triple Crown winner in 36 years when he races at the Belmont Stakes this Saturday, he could command a breeding value of $15 million to $20 million.
Â
But his humble bloodline may be limiting his value. His mother and father weren't great runners and haven't yet produced other winners.
Â
Still, he'd have marketing opportunities and potential book and movie deals. Skechers has already signed a deal to put its brand on California Chrome caps, clothes and horse blankets.
Â
His team also hasn't given up on the idea of racing him again next year. (AP)
