The Super Bowl is the biggest sports betting day of the year, and local sports books have been busy. This Sunday, The Row in Downtown Reno is throwing a casino-wide party.
"The big game bash is here," said Tony Marini, VP of Operations for The Row. "Downtown is the headquarters for the game, it's going to be 49ers faithful, all the TV's are going to be on the Super Bowl and we're excited for the weekend."
It's a longstanding tradition for some former NFL players who spend the big weekend at The Row. Here, you'll see some faces from Super Bowls past.
"I've been doing this Super Bowl party for about 35 years," said Glenn Carano, VP Eldorado Resorts and former Quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. "With my buddies Conrad Dobler, Phil Villapiano and Tony "The Thrill" Hill from the Dallas Cowboys."
They've made their predictions.
"Statistically, it's all 49ers," Carano said. "Best defense, good running game - that's how you win Super Bowls is great defense with a good running game and a good Quarterback to complement things - that's all 49ers. I'm going Kansas City and I'm going Mahomes!"
Former NFL Guard Conrad Dobler is leaning the same way.
"I live in Kansas City so I gotta go with the Chiefs," he said. "I don't think it's going to be a high scoring game, because the Chiefs are a ball control offense, but they have great receivers so they can also score at will. I think they lull a lot of the teams to sleep by running the ball a lot, then all of the sudden Mahomes comes up and passes the ball and they're not prepared for it."
Former NFL Linebacker Phil Villapiano disagrees.
"I am going with the 49ers because I'm from the Bay Area," he said. "So let's go win this 49ers! Garoppolo - Italian Quarterback, are you kidding, Villapiano, Garoppolo, it's automatic!"
They all have their legacies.
"I was called the dirties player in the NFL but that was by defensive linemen, I used to kick their butts," Dobler said.
And for decades, they've celebrated this weekend at the Silver Legacy.
"I've been coming to Reno forever; I feel like part of the Carano family," Villapiano said. "We can't wait for Sunday and the hospitality the Carano family gives to everyone is perfect."
A tradition that continues no matter what the score come Sunday.
"That's the camaraderie you build up," Dobler said. "It's something that lasts you the rest of your life; you'll be friends forever."
