Gardnerville House Fire Caused by Family Puppy

One family in Gardnerville is left without a home this holiday season following a house fire that was caused by their new puppy.

We spoke with Captain Terry Taylor of East Fork Fire Protection District. Taylor tells us they responded to a report of heavy smoke coming from the home, located at 817 Galena Court on Saturday around 1 p.m. Upon arrival responders found the kitchen and attic fully involved.

An investigation revealed that the family left the home around 10 a.m. When the family left, they put multiple items on their counter to avoid their new puppy from getting into them.

While they were gone the puppy jumped onto the countertop, switching the kitchen stove on.

The glass top stove eventually caught the kitchen on fire and spread through much of the home. The home was left uninhabitable with more than $100,000 worth of damage.  We are sad to report that the puppy was also lost in the fire.

The parents and their 3 children have been displaced with assistance from Red Cross.
