Grassroots Books in Reno is making it easy for book lovers to fill their shelves during the pandemic. They've set up a big outdoor space that's open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday with thousands of titles. Everything on the tables is less than a dollar.
"We just want people to have access to books," said buyer Erika Root. "These are weird times, and the outside sale is a way we can get people out here feeling comfortable and have access to a lot of books, and they're 99 cents or less."
All week, they've been giving away free books for kids. Friday is the last day to take advantage of that sale; you can buy tickets on their Facebook page and pick out the books from the 25 cent area.
"We're really trying to promote kids reading," Root said. "That's something Grassroots has really been about for a long time, is promoting children's literacy."
They trust you here - there are multiple ways to pay for your books.
"If you'd like to come inside to pay, put the books you find out here in your car and then come and tell us how many you have," Root said. "Or you can pay online through our website, or over the phone, so you don't have to go inside if you don't want to."
There have been a lot of donations during the pandemic, and they're constantly adding new inventory.
"The people who support Grassroots really love Grassroots," Root said. "We have great people who come out and they're really excited to shop here, they tell their friends about it, it's really great."
Masks are required both indoors and in the outdoor sale area.
