Harvest of Hopes: Thanksgiving for The Homeless

Merry War Theatre Group held their 4th annual 'Harvest of Hopes' Thursday morning. The group spends half of thanksgiving day handing out meals and clothes to homeless in our area.

Chase Mckenna used to volunteer on thanksgiving in L.A. every year, when she moved to Reno she decided to bring that tradition with her, "The first year was in my kitchen and we had 27 volunteers and we did 53 meals," she says.

Now four years later she was able to give out 750 meals. Last year they handed out 473 meals, 300 kindness kits, and over 800 articles of winter clothing.

She was able to expand thanks to our community. Such as Liberty Food and Wine, who opened up their kitchen and building, allowing them to cook all the meals. Their goal is to make sure everyone has a hot meal, which is why dozens of volunteers showed up in their cars, "We don't know how to get to word out to homeless people that we have food for them so we load up cars with meals, kindness kits and clothing and it is their job to canvas," says Mckenna.

Merry War Theatre Group is already getting ready for next Thanksgiving so if you would like to help by donating or even help them for their toy drive visit: https://www.merrywar.com/
