Ignition Interlock Device

Beginning October 1, 2018 anyone who is arrested for DUI will be required to install an ignition interlock device on their car in order to maintain their driving privileges and as a condition of a court order.

An ignition interlock measures alcohol in a person’s system, much like a breathalyzer. If that amount exceeds a pre-programmed level, then the interlock temporarily locks the vehicle’s ignition.

Senate Bill 259 was signed into law on June 12, 2017.
