Kids Free Fishing Day Held at Sparks Marina

Children with special needs enjoyed a day outdoors and learned how to fish for free at the Sparks Marina Thursday morning.

Poles, bait and gear were provided at no cost for Kids Free Fishing Day.

Volunteers helped teach the kids how to bait their hooks, string and cast their poles and ultimately, how to catch a fish!

"This is a great opportunity for these kids to get outdoors, do something different. A lot of their days are a lot of the same thing, day in and day out, so this is something different they can get out and do and enjoy the day,” says Ryan Gilbrech, Kids Free Fishing Chairman.

And this Saturday, you can head out to the Sparks Marina for Free Fishing Day.

From 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., you can fish the Sparks Marina -- no license or trout stamp required for children or adults.

Organizers say they expect as many as 3,000 people to take advantage of the opportunity.
