LCSD: County Employee Shooting Squirrels at Park Causes Precautionary Lock-In

The Lyon County School District says a county employee trying to shoot squirrels with a pellet gun at a nearby park caused the precautionary lock-in of three schools in Dayton on Wednesday.

LCSD says school administration and the sheriff's office originally got a report of a person at the park across the street with a "firearm."

Immediately, LCSD implemented the precautionary lock-in as administration officials talked with local law enforcement who were investigating the incident.

Shortly after, the three schools received the all-clear from the sheriff's office and the lock-in was lifted. School operations resumed as normal.

The three schools affected were Dayton Elementary, Intermediate and High Schools.

LCSD says at no time were students or staff in any danger.
