If you travel to and from Lemmon Valley you know traffic can be a nightmare. RTC is working to fix that problem.
Eventually RTC wants to widen Lemmon Drive between U.S. 395 and Military Road from four lanes to six and also two lanes between Fleetwood Drive and Chickadee.
There will be lane closures between U.S. 395 and Military Road from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m now through November 22nd.
Next Monday through early December... There will also be lane closures between Fleetwood drive and Chickadee drive from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
RTC officials say the Lemmon Drive widening project is intended to address a number of concerns.
"Part of the project is widening Lemmon Drive from four lanes to six lanes from U.S. 395 out to Military Road. Also Lemmon Drive as well as Sky Vista if not the busiest, but one of the busiest roads in Reno. So we are looking to address both safety and mobility,” says RTC Project Manager Dale Keller.
A construction start date has not been set yet due to funding. In the meantime, RTC will be collecting soil and pavement samples as well as surveying the area to help them choose a design.
"Starting around 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. we’ll have intermittent lane closures. So we’ll go take a sample and then move along. So practice patience and it will be done in a short time,” says Keller.
Residents I spoke to say having patience is hard when traffic congestion has been a growing problem in the area for quite some time.
"That takes years; it took a year just to get one more lane up to Golden Valley. They wait until it’s a disaster and then they want to fix it,” says Charles Stierhoff a Lemmon Valley Resident.
"They're not thinking ahead in my view. There just thinking about making the money and building permits. They're not thinking about the people who live here,” says Donald Otto a Lemmon Valley Resident.
RTC officials encourage anyone to call them or email them with concerns.
Starting next year they’ll also schedule community meetings so residents can have their voices heard.
Those dates will be released on the RTC website, which you can find by clicking on the below:
