The Reno Police Department says Ben Anderson, a boy inspiring others in his fight against a terminal brain disease, passed away last week.

Ben's family made the announcement over the weekend.

Ben was battling X-linked Adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) a rare terminal genetic brain disease.

We first met him last year when he was the Reno Police Chief for a day and saw him again when he got to be a part of the Reno Fire Department.

Earlier this year Ben also got a chance to meet Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

RPD released a statement on Twitter Monday saying their hearts were broken by the news and offered support and prayers for his friends and family

Ben Anderson was only nine years old.
