Jennifer Burton: In Carson City today, twelve-year-old Maxwell Thornley gathered with friends and parents to bring awareness to child slavery --which is still a problem in other countries around the world.
Standing on street corners near the legislative building, participants held signs reading "5.5 million child slaves" and "Honk to end child slavery"
That 5.5 million number comes from Nobel prize winner Kailash Satyarthi whose work has inspired Maxwell. A book called "Free the Children" also influenced Maxwell, allowing him to try to imagine his life in their shoes.
Maxwell Thornley, Carson City: It's really important because a kid my age could be chained to a carpet loom for his whole life and I can't imagine that really.
Burton: Maxwell says he hopes to continue to bring awareness to child slavery and hopes to start a "go-fund-me" site to raise money to contribute to the cause.
