Dilworth Middle School PE teacher Sam Reynolds has turned to YouTube during the pandemic to encourage students to stay active and healthy.
"Particularly with all of the smoke days earlier this year where we didn't want kids going outside," he said. "So I threw some YouTube videos up with stretches and warm-ups and things like that, and it kind of caught on when Korey joined the show during the second round of distance learning."
7th grader Korey Arnes is a special needs student who is passionate about his school.
"It is so awesome; the teachers are so nice to me," he said.
He's also a big YouTube fan, so working with Coach Reynolds was a natural fit.
"When we decided to go to distance learning this round, Korey asked if he could join the show I accepted," Reynolds said. "I've been working with Korey for a couple of years now, and one of the things we've been working on is perseverance. I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to spread that message to not just Korey, but everybody, because it is something we can all work on during all of this."
Self care is a recurring theme on the show.
"Take care of yourself and those around you," Arnes said. "And wash your hands and protect yourself from COVID-19."
And reviews have been positive as well.
"People seem to like it," Reynolds said. "We're getting positive comments. We try and keep it all positive because nobody needs any extra negativity these days. And Korey is thrilled, so like, share and subscribe. Leave a comment and keep it positive."
Season Two of the Coach and Korey show is set to start after the new year.
